Supporting New Mothers and Babies in Chitungwiza Hospital, Zimbabwe

At Oasis of Love, we are called to make a tangible difference in the lives of others, and one of the most impactful ways we’ve been able to serve is through our Mum and Baby Support initiative. Recently, our Women's Ministry identified a significant need in Chitungwiza Hospital, Zimbabwe—a need that spoke to our hearts and reminded us of the power of compassion and service.

The Situation in Chitungwiza Hospital

Chitungwiza Hospital, located in the heart of Zimbabwe, serves thousands of families, many of whom struggle with inadequate access to basic healthcare and essential supplies. New mothers in this hospital often face the harsh reality of not having access to necessary medications, clean clothes, and baby essentials. As a result, both mothers and their newborns suffer without the support they desperately need during such a critical time.

Our Women’s Ministry recognized that these women were not only dealing with the joy of bringing new life into the world but were also facing the overwhelming challenge of caring for their babies under extremely difficult conditions. Many mothers did not have painkillers, diapers, or proper clothing, and the hospital’s lack of resources compounded the stress and vulnerability of the situation.

Oasis of Love Steps In

Moved by compassion and the desire to help, Oasis of Love stepped in to offer much-needed support. We reached out to the mothers at Chitungwiza Hospital, bringing hope and relief through the provision of essential items that would ease their burdens and provide comfort during their recovery and the early days of motherhood.

Our contributions included:

  • Clothes for both mothers and babies: Many mothers arrived at the hospital with little to no clothing for themselves or their newborns. We provided new clothes to ensure that they could feel dignified and cared for.

  • Painkillers and medical supplies: New mothers often face discomfort after childbirth, but without proper medication, their recovery is slower and more difficult. Oasis of Love provided pain relief to help them manage the physical challenges that come with giving birth.

  • Diapers and baby essentials: Babies require constant care, and basic items like diapers are crucial for their health and comfort. We supplied diapers and other essential baby care products to make sure that the little ones were well cared for.

  • Adult clothing and toiletries: We also made sure that the mothers had access to adult clothing and toiletries to ensure they could maintain their own hygiene and feel supported during their stay at the hospital.

A Community Coming Together

This mission wasn’t just about providing material resources—it was about showing the mothers of Chitungwiza that they were not alone. Our Women’s Ministry, along with the broader Oasis of Love community, came together to offer love, encouragement, and hope in the form of practical support. The overwhelming gratitude from the mothers and hospital staff was a reminder of the profound impact that kindness, compassion, and a willingness to serve can have.

While the provision of clothing, painkillers, and baby supplies was a tangible act of support, it was also a reminder that God’s love shines through the simplest acts of service. By meeting the physical needs of these mothers, we hope to have also touched their hearts and reminded them that they are seen, valued, and cared for by a loving community.

Moving Forward: Continuing to Serve

The situation at Chitungwiza Hospital serves as a stark reminder of the realities that many new mothers and babies face, not just in Zimbabwe but around the world. At Oasis of Love, we are committed to continuing our efforts to support those in need. Our Women’s Ministry is already planning further initiatives to ensure that more mothers and babies receive the care they deserve.

We recognize that the journey of motherhood can be challenging, especially in under-resourced areas, and we will continue to step up in whatever way we can to provide relief, care, and support. This mission to Chitungwiza Hospital is just one example of how Oasis of Love is committed to being a light in the world—helping those in need, sharing God’s love, and making a lasting difference in the lives of others.

"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."— Galatians 6:2 (NIV)

As we continue to serve and support new mothers, we invite you to join us in prayer and action. Together, we can make a lasting impact, one act of kindness at a time.
