Active August: Prioritizing Mental Health Through Movement


At Oasis of Love, we believe that taking care of our mental health is just as important as taking care of our physical health. That’s why every year, throughout the month of August, we host Active August—a month-long initiative that encourages everyone to prioritize their mental well-being by engaging in physical activities. Whether you're new to exercise or a seasoned fitness enthusiast, Active August is all about coming together as a community to support one another and improve our mental health through movement.


Why Active August?

Taking care of our mental health is vital in today’s fast-paced world, and we know that physical activity plays a significant role in promoting positive mental well-being. Exercise is proven to reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression while boosting energy levels, improving sleep, and increasing overall happiness. It’s a simple yet powerful way to boost our mood and enhance our quality of life.

During Active August, we want to inspire everyone—young and old—to get moving, whether it’s through walking, jogging, cycling, dancing, or any other form of exercise that brings joy. It’s about fostering a healthy mind and body, and most importantly, about creating a supportive and encouraging environment where everyone feels welcomed to take part.


How You Can Get Involved

Getting involved in Active August is easy! All you need to do is commit to being more active this month and encourage others to do the same. We’ll be sharing information and motivational tips through our youth page (@ool.youth) and during church services. Join us in setting personal goals for physical activity throughout August, whether it’s aiming for a daily walk, hitting the gym, or participating in a group fitness session.

You don’t need to be a fitness expert—just take part in whatever activities you enjoy that get your body moving. It’s all about making progress at your own pace and prioritizing your mental health through consistent movement.


Tracking Your Progress

We use an app for tracking, but we also encourage you to keep a simple log of your activities throughout the month. Share your progress with friends, family, or fellow participants at church to celebrate each other’s efforts and inspire one another to stay motivated. Feel free to post your progress or any exercise tips on social media using the hashtag #ActiveAugust, and let’s keep each other encouraged as we go!


Supporting Each Other

The beauty of Active August is the sense of community we create together. We’re all on this journey toward better mental health, and it’s through supporting one another that we can truly thrive. Whether you're taking a solo walk, joining a fitness class, or simply stretching at home, your involvement in this initiative makes a difference.

At Oasis of Love, we want to remind you that you’re not alone in this journey. We’re here to support and encourage you every step of the way. Together, we can make this August a time to focus on our well-being and discover new ways to improve our mental and physical health.
